Missing Link Found

Scientist say this may very well be the most important discovery ever made in the study of human evolution. They believe that the missing link has been found. The 47 million year old primate fossil, now in the Museum of Natural History in New York, was found in outside of Frankfurt inside a giant crater, a mile in width. Scientists believe many prehistoric creatures from the Eocene epoch were trapped in the crater and killed by a volcanic eruption. Their remains, however, were very well preserved. At the time the inexperienced discoverers were not aware of the importance of their find. Years later the fossil was brought to the University of Oslo and studied in secret for two years.

The almost perfectly intact fossil, known as Darwinius Masillae, was revealed Tuesday May 19th and is said to represent the link between humans and apes. The reasons for this prehistoric primates importance, are certain physical traits that the creature possessed, such as, opposable thumbs and finger nails as opposed to claws. The small lemur-like animal had hind legs that could have been used to stand upright. This evidence would prove Darwin's theory of evolution.

The History Channel is airing a show about this amazing new discovery that will premier sometime this week. For now you can view a clip of a local news channel airing this important discovery
