Is Weebly.com A Scam?

Is Weebly.com A Scam

This is only my opnion let me know how you feel. I love creating new blogs and websites. I spend alot of time reading different arcticles and blogs online and I like to share the information that I have learned. This make sites like Hubpages of Blogspot (a great site that lets you make free blogs) very appealing to me. Recently, I came across a site called Weebly.com. Weebly makes it very easy to intergrate your adsense ads to the pages you create, this was just what I was looking for. I took the time to create a webpage and add some interesting content. When I was finished I decided to put in my adsense ads, and logged into adsense.com to activate weebly. Thats when I noticed that I would only be receiving 50% of the money the ads on my Weebly page. They take half your money! I have never seen this before... I think this is a scam.. but maybe i'm wrong. What do you think?

I think they take half the money so that they can keep the service free for the end user. Nothing in this world is totally free my friend and these guys gotta get paid too :-)

Kegnum 2 years ago

My point wasn't that they take their cut of the earnings.... It's that they aren't up front about it...

milynch43 2 years ago

I just went through this. I set up the site and the got an email from Google asking permission for them to access my account. They get 50%. Unless I missed something that's not mentioned in their TOS. Deleted the account. I think they are scam.

RockyView 2 years ago

They get 50% - you get 50% + you get a free website. I hope they make a million bucks off me because that means I'll have a million too. Its business. If that not what you want go elsewhere.

I, too, located Weebly.com and initially felt the same. After two days of refining my initial blog I logged back in to discover my Front Page was gone!!! Totally. Not saved. Not hid. Gone. Off into cyberspace. No response from Weebly on complaints. No resolution. No recovery. I have not posted in two weeks so yesterday I received an email to tell me how much they miss me. The Adsense stuff I did not know, don't really care at this point since I was not even able to add Weebly to my Blogspot account. But missing pages does concern me. In addition, there has been no point when I have accessed my blog that I have not had problems: slow posting, screen blackout, jumbled posts, missing or botched links, posts in wrong spots. Not once. I'm about not to utilize Weebly anymore.

I signed up for what I presumed would be a blog I could create with my heart and soul in mind, not preformatted templates that don't relate at all to what I had in mind or the topic of my blog. Since I am not, have never been, and don't want to be, computerized to the max, I am not qualified to add all the formulas etc. to construct my own template. Furthermore, Weebly does encourage you to establish your own personal website: for which they will charge you. Not totally free and certainly not complication free as advertised.

I like Weebly - I have been on expensive hosts and have worked from Dreamweaver to writing own simple html. Weebly much less stress. I have no problem letting them have 50% or even paying them for an upgraded version. You get a LOT for free. Sometimes the program is slow or cranky - but FREE? You go, Weebly!

tim7967 2 years ago

It's a joke really... they keep sending me emails and _will not_ remove my email from their subscription list... they have told me the equivlent of F* off and die. >:(

I think all of you who are upset about Weebly are overreacting. When I set up my website and looked up what adsense is, it's right there---you split revenues 50/50. If you want a customized website with everything the way you want it, you will have to pay for it. Why does everyone expect everything for free? We all have bills to pay and so do the people at Weebly. Get over it.

Random  2 years ago

lol @ RockyView comment. If they make $1million you dont make $1million. if they are taking 50% that leaves you with 500,000 giving them 500,000 which is way too much. If they didnt mention this up front then yes, its called being hustled! PERIOD!

Chase 2 years ago

You are an idiot Random haha if they make a million dollars of you then that means you made 2 million dollars and gave them 50 percent (1 million) leaving you with 1 million dollars!!

Amogh 2 years ago

Look guys,

Weebly is a free site and you can make 'n' number of sites, but they need money for storage of these pages! And nothing in this world is free! if someone tells you, then it's totally fake. What I felt is that Weebly's domain registration is much reliable, but on the contrary, they get a lot...MUCH MORE THAN THIS with our Google Adsense revenues!

i just want to make a site can som1 help me

anggun51 22 months ago

I have been with weebbly.com for almost 6 months now. So far, it is so easy to use, very reliable and functionally well. Yes, no doubt they take half of your commission, they also have to survive. Nothing is for free. If you feel it is not worth the effort or it's a scam just don't join. No offend, It's just my point of view.

connie 21 months ago

The point is this: they did not let you know up front that you will have to share 50% of your Adsense profits. Anyone who has had experience with building websites know that you can pay for webhosting (very minimal amount) and receive 100% of your Adsense profits elsewhere. I spent several weeks on my website, when ready to intergrate Adsense, which I set up outside of Weebly, I found this out. I planned to pay for the service, but used the free service as I built the website. This is just horrible. I now have weeks of work that I will have to redo. For those of you who think it is no big deal, do some research. Many people make thousands monthly from Adsense. 50% is just too much.

RecentWeebler 21 months ago

I have been with weebly about a month or so and so far its great. I was tempted to do the adsense thing but couldn't make up my mind. However, when i click it, it plainly let me know that I'll be receiving 50% of my revenue. Since I was not selling anything per se I decided to cancel it. People, please read everything that pops up on the screen and if you are unsure of if the site you are using will take a percentage of your adsense, please contact the company BEFORE signing up. There are reasons disclaimers and all these other security papers (TOS etc) are there. Oh yeah i have also contacted their customer support and have gotten back quite a quick reply. And all this on a free account.

OK...here we go...Such uncertainty here.

Hubpages already has adsense. They give you a free account, when you write here. All adsense clicks on your ads, is money you receive from google at 100%. Once you have your adsense account, you can build web sites, blogs, forums, and more anywhere for free...without sharing your revenue with anyone! Why in the world would I want to give anyone 50% of my adsense, when it's not necessary? I wouldn't, period.

I have been on hubpages over 2 years now, and have received several checks from google from my adsense. Not a huge amount, but found money for what I write about. Then I have several other sites, I place my adsense on, and broaden my click ratios. Anyone can do this, and now I think I should create a new hub to explain all of this more thoroughly.

The fact is...I did it ALL For FREE! Including all the web sites, blogs, and databases I have built. You need NO outside help, that you have to pay for, or share revenue with. That's a fact. Watch for my next hub describing this.

From a legal standpoint I feel weebly is deceptive, and gears their claims to trick you into giving up something you really don't have to. Although they don't tell you this, of course.

Good luck everyone, and beware of opportunists looking to cash in on your hard work!

Cheers!

I signed up for weebly in January of this year. I apparently had my account on "auto-renew" with my credit card number stored. They just charged my card (today 12/10/10) for another year of my domain. I got no notice or warning or any information whatsoever that they would be charging me automatically for this. What's really fishy is that I cannot find a working phone number for them anywhere. I found one but when I call it just gives empty extensions where you have to leave a message. It offers to give you a company directory but when you press "*" it hangs up on you or takes you back to the main menu. I sent an email to "support" telling them they need to reverse the charge because they were not authorized and have yet to receive a response. The entire transaction is definitely fishy and I won't be using them again after I receive my refund. I am deleting all accounts.

So, please any tel me is this good to allow weebly.com to access my adsense account?

greatbarrierreef 17 months ago

Gday Kegnum

Yes i dident know that i just joined up then with Weebly and like anything i do i check it out properly that is how i found your hub.

Now if ya want an easy to use online page builder and the use of adsense widgets and keep ALL of ya money generated by adsense then sign up with Yola i have 8 sites with them and they are great and easy to use also very little down time when they do go down.

I done a heap of research as to what free service would support adsense and Yola is definitely the go.

Regards and good luck!!

Hi bro the thing with weebly is that its a great site and it gives you free unlimited hosting but it takes away the adsense earnings by 50%

which you all know but theres also a pro account which you pay money for. The thing i dont know is that if you get a pro account will you still lose half the profit

I am sorry but, you are all a lot of amateur, ignorant, immature, people when it comes to life AND business.

This is one of the most user-friendly, accessible "Make a Free Website" sites out there! The customer service has been MORE than helpful and as far as the Google Ad Sense goes, are you for real?

50% of a shit-load of traffic, could mean some really good coin! So, instead of whining like an old rusty faucet, be creative, use your brain and get that traffic to where it's earning you money.

If you find it difficult, to make any good money on a site that you are using to list your opinions about things, don't waste your time. Use your site as a business, even if that business is a Non-Profit, like the Handmade Custom Hemp Clothing line I am developing and will be using Weebly to promote and generate revenue.

Don't cry, make people BUY!

Don't imitate, innovate!

People!! they clearly tell you BEFORE you set it up!!! anyways they have to make money somewhere!! And yes, im sure other places let you set up a place for free and let you keep 100% but trust me on this, they will be making money elsewhere in a place that weebly doesnt. DEAL WITH IT!!! ITS THE WAY OF THE WORLD!!!

I recently made a school project website and I decided to add ads to it just for fun. I don't think that this is really a problem because they do have to get payed. It's sort of a getting-started-on-making-websites website for making websites. If you really start to make money then just move your website to your own URL.

Kriestienn 13 months ago

I've been using Weebly for 2 businesses I run, and was introduced to it by a friend who uses it for her basketweaving and other crafts. I love weebly. I've tried Wix and a few other services. Wix was a bit of a rip off, at least the free version is. The URL is very long and confusing and so you pretty much end up being forced to buy their service.

I love my Weebly I've never "lost my page into cyberspace" if I've had concerns they've always responded to my customer service requests. I don't use adsense but my feeling is that nothing is free. And they do actually tell you up front because I remember I was going to sign up for it but that's why I changed my mind was because I didn't want to sign up at that time because I wasn't sure how well my work would take off.

If you really want then just go buy your own URL and learn how to do HTML or flash yourself. I took classes in it so I know how to do it I'm just honestly too lazy and Weebly allows me to have a professional page for my customers to go to and learn about my companies (photography and Arabian horse training/instruction) at a great price. I actually am going to be paying for my services starting this year just because I love it so much. So go use a blog page if you want something cheap and accessible otherwise I say just quit complaining. They're providing a service that's a good service and they deserve some money making to offer this to their customers.

I've now created four websites with Weebly. One for myself and three for others, using the "pro" version. I've found it very reliable, very easy to use, completely customizable through the option to edit HTML and CSS myself, AND my "clients" like it because it is easy to for them to use in editing their own website after I am done creating it.

Pramod 11 months ago

It informs you clearly before you accept. And weebly is the best if you just need a website. I got my domain redirected there without a fee. Thats cool..

Well to answer your question, I have seen this before. On triond, which is something like hubpages, takes 50% of your adsense profits as well. Check out Facebook & Twitter! If weebly was such a scam, why are there so many people using it? You have to look at the number of people and I'm pretty sure that if it was a scam, they wouldn't have 35, 214 likes on Facebook and 32, 809 followers on twitter. Have you ever heard of this saying, "nothing in life is free." Besides, what is 50%......nothing! You are using their website, so there's nothing surprising about their 50% profit. You can't expect to use their stuff for free. They are good enough to let you use their site, so be good enough to split your profits. Think about it, if they were a scam, I don't think that they would have an option to use their website for free. They would charge period!

I like Weebly because it gives me another site to put in some blogs that link back to my primary sites. Thus, I am creating free links that help boost the ratings of my other blogs. The 50% split on the adsense revenue is nothing to me.

I do like the flexibility in how you can set up the web pages. I would like HubPages more if they could increase the flexibility of arranging modules. For instance, It would be nice to have the option of a text and picture module anywhere in the web page, not just in the first part of it.

BTW: You misspelled "article" in your article.

Weebly is awesome....built functioning awesome fundraising sites in minutes and FREE.

I have never had a problem...I am considering paying for the upgrades. I think they will be well worth it.

You guys know its only a 50/50 split if you use Weeby's AdSense element. They take nothing if you use your other custom Google AdSense code using their "Custom HTML" element. It's pretty simple work around. Plus its pretty clear in their help guide that they would take 50/50 when using their element. http://kb.weebly.com/adsense.html

Weebly is a scam if you pay for it. they will keep doubling your subscription fee until you refuse to pay any more, then when you refuse they will delete your website, and just say it was in violation of their terms of service ... even if it wasnt, so all your hard work is erased and there's nothing you can do about it, they will ignore your emails and just say the delete is irreversable.

I use weebly and it is not a scam they provide everything for free they do not keep doubling the amount I dont know where everybody gets this but weebly.com is not a scam it is something very useful and they do put a mark at the bottom of your page if you do not have the paid pro version which is really cheap and they give you a free subdomain and they just want alittle bit of money off the adsense they need to get paid to and dont use it if you dont believe me but if you have anything to say to me email me at charlesmurray1998@gmail.com

It is definitely not a scam as it is a well-funded start up in SF. Its goal is good - to help everyone set up a website very easily. However, I'm curious how responsive its tech support is? I hope to have sufficient support even if I need to pay for it...Anyone knows?

Hfvfsha 2 weeks ago

no no not really see, since you are able to express yourself freely reaching whoever, whomever receiving payment for it but, using their means to do it. Then why shouldnt they get get half. Yes its your Idea but you use Their Gateway. But what of this..

Weebly is great and I have a website with them(www.webmastercenter.weebly.com) I think the 50?50 is a bit hight is should probably be 75/25 or 80/20. However Weebly does offer simplicity and great support that is hard to find anywhere else just kinda wished the earning split was a little less so I could earn more.
